Sustainability Rhythm — the sound of change

Our Story – The Thoughts Behind the Name

Our passion for all things hair, beauty, and wellness came first. Salon Rhythm came from our want to make every client’s wish a reality. While we focus on making dreams come true we also notice the waste and impact that our industry can and does make on the environment. We want everyone to feel healthy and their best when they leave here and we realised we should be doing the very same thing with the environment around us. Every small change makes a huge difference.

Salon Rhythm is a female-led salon passionate about your hair, body, and skin and focused on minimal waste and recycling in everyway we can.

Let’s think outside the box and get creative about our recycling.

Every small change we make is a step toward something better — for you, and for the world around us

Products that actually care — KMS

We choose KMS for your hair for the same reason we choose everything else in here: it’s genuinely good, and it’s genuinely conscious. KMS make their formulas vegan, and they’re PETA-approved and cruelty-free — never tested on animals. They compensate their unavoidable carbon emissions down to zero through climate-protection projects, upcycle ingredients from food-production waste back into their products, use less water in their formulas, and keep reducing and rethinking their packaging so more of it can be recycled. Beautiful hair that’s kind to the planet — that’s our kind of product.

Our refillery — keep your bottles

Rachel has built our very own refillery. Buy your shampoo or conditioner once, then keep the bottle — bring it back and we’ll refill it for you at a discounted rate. Less plastic in landfill, less cost for you. Win-win.

Keeping it local — and honest

We’re small. We’ll never have the buying power of the Amazons and Temus of the world — but we’ll always do our very best to price-match where we can. Here’s the thing about buying your haircare from your hairdresser, though: we actually care about your hair, and we know what’s best for it.

And something to think about… when you buy from those big online marketplaces, you never really know what you’re actually getting. The label can look exactly the same — but is it? You’ll never really know. (Ever seen what someone can do with a Cricut machine? #thinkaboutit)

The Steps We Are Taking

  1. We use eco-friendly wash sheets in our laundry instead of harsh detergents.
  2. We hang out our towels instead of putting them straight in the dryer.
  3. All coffee grounds go straight into our little herb garden in our courtyard.
  4. We make our own cleaning products from vinegar and essential oils. Always in glass bottles. Say no to plastic.
  5. Leftover chemicals are put into a container and straight in the bin to avoid them getting into our waterways.
  6. We save the hair from our haircuts and give them to a local community garden and of course our favourite handcrafted soil treatment, powered by hair.
  7. We have a shampoo refill station where you came bring your bottles to get them refilled, reducing plastic waste and cost for you guys. Win-Win.
